September 19, 2018

It's been exactly a month since we set sail on August 19, 2018 on our 6,000 nautical mile sailing journey from Stralsund, Germany to Gulf Shores, Alabama, USA. We battled the Baltic, survived the North Sea, encountered the English Channel and entered the Atlantic. We have covered 1/6 of our journey so far - 1,062 nautical miles. But the adventure goes on! Up next is the ever challenging Bay of Biscay. Come along for the ride!

Extras 14 - Daily Life of Sailing Seadogs

September 8, 2018

We love taking this journey with our Beagles, Cap’n Jack and Scout. It’s so much fun to see them explore all the new places and enjoy all the fantastic smells! They also love sailing with us!

Extras 12 - First Gale During First Week at Sea

September 4, 2018

We set sail for our cross-Atlantic journey from Stralsund, Germany to Gulf Shores, Alabama and faced our first gale during the first week at sea. The Baltic Sea showed us her fury during a short, but signficant squall that produced 38-knot winds. SV Seefalke handled it great! This is just a snapshot of the storm, but you can watch the full video "Battling the Baltic" on our channel by following this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ztAH...

Extras 10 - Dogs in Flight - Crossing the Atlantic by Air

August 3, 2018

We were beyond relieved to have Cap’n Jack and Scout safely in Germany after a two-day trip from Gulf Shores. Big shout-outs of major thanks to the professionals at Lufthansa, Lufthansa Cargo, Pet Air Carrier, and especially our friends at Magnolia by the Gulf Animal Clinic for helping us make this happen.

Extras 09 - Sailors & Seadogs On the Water

June 28, 2018

Real-life adventures from Gulf Shores, Alabama to Stralsund, Germany. Maik and Michelle share their love of sailing, the sea, wildlife, our four fabulous kids, and our two Beagles, Cap’n Jack and Scout. Our fleet includes three unique sailboats. Seefalke is a 43-foot, steel-hull, Dutch-designed Ketch that we plan to sail across the Atlantic in 2018-2019. We logged most of our nautical miles on Toja - a 24-foot Flying Tramp that keeps us active on The Baltic Sea from her home port in Stralsund, Germany. We also have a cool little day-sailor, The Protagonist - a hand-crafted, 15-foot, wooden, open hull catboat that is moored at our home in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Extras 08 - Sailing Toja on The Baltic Sea

June 4, 2017

Maik and Michelle sailed Toja 76 nautical miles in 16 hours from Rønne, Denmark to Karlskrona, Sweden in heavy wind and waves. For Michelle, it was her first long-distance, open-ocean voyage and her first bout of severe seasickness, which hit her about 10 minutes after capturing this video. The struggle is real!!! We had just hit open water after passing the wind shadow of the island of Rønne.

Extras 07 - Our Fleet & Our Crew

June 17, 2018

Check out our fleet of three cool vessels that we sail on the Gulf Coast, The Baltic Sea and everywhere in between. We plan to take Seefalke across the Atlantic in 2018-2019. Follow our adventures with our crew - which includes four kids and two awesome Beagles.

Extras 04 - Small Boats Make the Sailor

June 12, 2018

The Protagonist is our 15-foot, wooden catboat that we love to take on day sails from it's home port on Plash Island in Gulf Shores, AL. The big boats get the glory, but the small boats make the sailor, and this is especially true for The Protagonist. We will be sailing SEEFALKE, a 43-foot ketch, across the Atlantic this year from the Baltic Sea to Bon Secour Bay. Please SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel to follow our journey! We'd love to have you come along for the ride!
