Crossing the Atlantic PART TWO (Read Part One) Sometimes your worst night at sea is the one you spend at anchorage. After 15 straight days sailing across the Atlantic from Cape Verde, Africa to Brazil, we took a pit stop at the remote island of Ihla Fernando de Noronha on our way to Cabedelo. After about a week of blistering heat while sailing the doldrums on the Equatorial line and into the waters of the Southern Hemisphere, we welcomed the overcast weather and even the rain that began to fall and cool things off a bit. It took a while to get the anchor settled, but Maik was feeling completely unsettled. This week it was just the pups and me. Maik needed to travel to Germany for a week to work and to spend time with his daughter. I really missed him, but I accomplished a lot of work. In addition, I did my normal in-port chores, like laundry and minor boat maintenance. I also had to deal with an unexpected repair for Seefalke.

It’s a rainy, windy, ugly day here in beautiful Helgoland, a remote offshore island surrounded by The North Sea. The wind is howling with 6-knot gusts, even with a huge wind shadow provided by our high-wall mooring. We are waiting at least one more day to set out again.
